Generac — Battery Maintenance Inspection

For these Generac models: 004666, 004666-1, 005011, 005011-0, Model 004666, Model 005011.

Before you start

  • Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. The battery is capable of exploding.
  • Do not use tap water in batteries.
  • Lead-acid batteries present a risk of fire because they generate hydrogen gas.

Procedure

  1. Inspect the battery posts and cables for tightness and corrosion.
  2. Tighten and clean as necessary.
  3. Check the battery fluid level of unsealed batteries and, if necessary, fill with DISTILLED WATER ONLY.
  4. Have the state of charge and condition checked using an automotive-type battery hydrometer.

  • Battery hydrometer

Specs & torque values

  • Distilled water only (do not use tap water)
