Procedure

  1. 1.
  2. All hoses and hose connections.
  3. 2.
  4. Radiator seams, radiator core, and radiator drain
  5. petcock.
  6. 3.
  7. All block core plugs and drain plugs.
  8. 4.
  9. Edges of all cooling system gaskets.
  10. 5.
  11. Water pump shaft and bushing.
  12. NOTE: A small amount of antifreeze coming out the water
  13. pump weep hole may be normal.
  14. Examine oil dipstick for evidence of coolant contaminated
  15. engine oil (white milky appearance).

  20. Battery/Anti-Freeze Tester
  21. 014-R1060 or equivalent
  22. !
  23. WARNING: NEVER REMOVE THE PRESSURE
  24. RELIEF CAP WHILE THE ENGINE IS OPERATING OR
  25. WHEN THE COOLING SYSTEM IS HOT. MAY CAUSE
  26. PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO COOLING
  27. SYSTEM OR ENGINE. TO AVOID HAVING SCALDING
  28. HOT COOLANT OR STEAM BLOW OUT OF THE
  29. DEGAS BOTTLE WHEN REMOVING THE PRESSURE
  30. RELIEF CAP, WAIT UNTIL THE ENGINE HAS COOLED
  31. DOWN TO AT LEAST 110°F.
  32. 1.
  33. Wrap a thick cloth around the pressure relief cap
  34. and turn it slowly one-half turn counterclockwise.
  35. Stepping back while the pressure is released from
  36. the cooling system.
  37. 2.
  38. When you are sure all the pressure has been released,
  39. (still with a cloth) turn counterclockwise and remove
  40. the pressure relief cap.
  41. CAUTION: If there is engine coolant in the
  42. engine oil the cause must be corrected and the
  43. oil changed or engine damage may occur.
  44. NOTE: Check the engine coolant in the degas bottle
  45. and radiator (8005) when vehicle has been allowed to
  46. reach normal operating temperature. This will make
  47. sure sufficient engine coolant exchange has occurred.
