Procedure

  2. CAUTION: Cooling systems are
  3. recommended to be filled with Motorcraft
  4. Premium Engine Coolant VC-4-A meeting Ford
  5. specification ESE-M97B44-A (green color). Do
  6. not mix coolant types.
  7. Install the water pump.
  8. 1. Lubricate the new O-ring seal using engine
  9. coolant and install the O-ring seal onto the
  10. water pump.
  11. 2. Position the water pump into the engine block
  12. and heater water outlet tube.
  13. 3. Install the bolts.

  18. Position the pulley onto the water pump.
  19. 3.
  20. Install the fan spacer and fan.
  21. 4.
  22. Install the drive belt.
  23. 5.
  24. Refill the cooling system. For additional information,
  25. refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Flushing
  26. in this section.

  30. DIAGNOSING AND TESTING
  31. Refer to the following Diagnosis Chart for cooling
  32. system problems, their possible cause and
  33. recommended correction. Refer to the pertinent part for
  34. testing and repair.
  35. The most frequent cooling system complaints are leakage
  36. and overheating. Either of these problems will soon render
  37. the vehicle inoperable.
  38. Most vehicles use an ethylene glycol base antifreeze
  39. solution to which the manufacturers have added a dye
  40. color. The dye color makes the antifreeze solution an
  41. excellent leak detector. If this type of solution is not being
  42. used in the cooling system, a vegetable dye may be
  43. added to aid in locating external leakage.
  44. NOTE: A small amount of antifreeze coming out the water
  45. pump weep hole may be normal.
