Ford — Seal Installation

Before you start

  • Solvents toxic and flammable
  • Seal not for operation above 110F

Procedure

  1. Inspect seal liner (47) bore for wear
  2. If replacement needed, use press and new sleeve to replace
  3. Slide seal plate onto shaft against intermediate
  4. Align lubrication hole with intermediate opening
  5. Temporarily secure seal plate with capscrews and nuts
  6. Clean seal cavity and shaft with solvent
  7. Lubricate packing rings and seal liner
  8. Slide seal spacer washer onto shaft with chamfered side facing shoulder
  9. Position inboard rotating element and slide until fully seated
  10. Subassemble and press inboard stationary seat, packing ring, spring washer into liner
  11. Install spacer sleeve and spring
  12. Subassemble and press outboard stationary seat, packing ring, spring washer into liner
  13. Install outboard rotating element with chamfered side facing impeller
  14. Reinstall automatic grease cup and piping (44, 45, 46)

Tools required

  • press
  • drill

Specs & torque values

  • seal liner (47)
  • 1/4 inch hole diameter
  • No. 2 lithium base grease
