Before you start
- Lifters cannot be checked with engine oil in them; use only testing fluid, not kerosene
Procedure
- Disassemble and clean lifter, removing all engine oil.
- Place lifter in tester with plunger facing upward.
- Pour hydraulic tester fluid to cover lifter assembly.
- Place a 5/16 inch steel ball in plunger cup.
- Adjust ram so pointer is 1/16 inch below start mark.
- Work plunger until fluid fills and air bubbles disappear.
- Measure time plunger travels from start to stop marks.
