Before you start
- Shut off engine before sticking hands into the access holes in the boom.
Procedure
- Fully retract the boom; put match mark A on the inner mid boom, B on the outer mid boom and C on the tip boom flush with the preceding section end.
- Extend the boom approximately 7 ft (2 M) and remove power; check the outer mid boom (third stage) extend wire rope tension by hand.
- Tighten the adjusting nut on the loosest wire ropes until all four wire ropes are tensioned equally.
- Torque the adjusting nut on the outer mid boom (third stage) retract wire rope to 30 ft. lbs. (40.68 Nm).
- Fully retract the boom while watching the match marks; extend approximately 6 ft and remove power as soon as one match mark aligns.
- Determine the remaining stroke to fully retract the boom.
- If the remaining stroke is greater than 1/8 in (3.2 mm), adjust the extend and retract wire rope adjusting nuts as specified in the manual.
- Repeat until the remaining stroke is 1/8 in (3.2 mm) or less.
- Recheck the retract wire rope adjusting nut torque at 30 ft. lbs. (40.68 Nm) and tighten the locking nuts.
- Repeat the procedure for the tip boom (fourth stage) extend and retract wire ropes.
- Recheck the torque on all extend and retract wire ropes and ensure all lock nuts are installed and jammed.
