Before you start
- Starter to be removed before with 2- and 3-cylinder engines.
- Catch any escaping oil (oil cooler, thermostat housing, oil filter housing, lube oil pump removal).
- Catch any escaping fuel (fuel filter housing removal).
- The repair procedure outlined in this chapter refers to the standard specification, i.e. components for customizing the engine are not shown.
Procedure
- Clamp engine in swivel-type engine assembly stand. Drain oil / residual oil.
- Remove hood.
- Remove stay plate.
- Remove oil cooler.
- Remove leakage fuel pipe.
- Remove cooling air ducting.
- Remove injection lines.
- Take adapters out of thermostat housing.
- Remove thermostat housing.
- Take off clamping pads. Remove injectors.
- Remove sealing ring with auxiliary tool.
- Lift off cover strip.
- Remove fuel lines.
- Remove fuel feed pump.
- Pull off cable plug connection.
- Remove oil filter housing together with oil filter.
- Remove fuel filter housing together with fuel filter.
- Remove idler pulley. Take off V-belt.
- Mark cables and remove.
- Remove blower together with alternator.
- Remove cables from starter.
- Remove cable plug connection.
- Take off cable terminal box. Remove wiring harness.
- Remove V-belt pulley.
- Remove toothed belt guard.
- Remove idler pulley. Take off toothed belt.
- Remove camshaft gear.
- Fit dolly for crankshaft gear. (In the case of new version, fit dolly with shim No. 143430.)
- Fit multipower tool and screw on.
- Retain multipower tool and loosen central screw union. Remove crankshaft gear and connecting flange.
- Remove lube oil pump.
- Remove complete crankcase breather.
- Lift off valve cover.
- Remove rocker arm brackets.
- Take out pushrods.
- Remove exhaust manifold.
- Remove air intake manifold.

- Angled clamping plate 6067/115
- Dolly 143420
- Shim 143430
- Puller 143100
- Dolly for camshaft 144130
- Torx tools
- Hose clip pliers
- Special two-pin spanner
- Bent spanner for starter
- Multipower tool STW392
- Socket a/flats 32 601MP
