Detroit Diesel — Low Idle Speed Adjustment

Adjustments · governor low idle

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • If the low idle setting is lower than the minimum allowed, the engine will stall and run rough.

Procedure

  1. Loosen the locknut which secures the low idle adjusting screw.
  2. Turn the adjusting screw to obtain the specified idle speed. Clockwise reduces r/min; counterclockwise increases r/min.
  3. Tighten the locknut when the specified speed is reached.
