Detroit Diesel — Install Booster Servomotor On Engine

Installation

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • If the governor hunts when the engine is started, purge the governor of air

Procedure

  1. Mount the booster servomotor on the front engine lifter bracket with the oil cylinder head uppermost.
  2. Secure with four 5/16"-18 UNC bolts, nuts and lock washers and torque the nuts to 13 lb-ft (18 N-m).
  3. Reconnect the oil and air lines ensuring each line is connected to the appropriate fitting.
  4. Fill and check the oil level in the governor.
  5. Purge the booster servomotor of air by removing the air start lines at the air start motors and operating the air start valve three or four times.
  6. After all air is removed, adjust initial opening of the fuel racks with the limit screw (turn counterclockwise to increase starting fuel).
