Detroit Diesel — Inspection

Testing & diagnosis · Aftertreatment Device (ATD)

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • The most important means to qualify a failed or damaged filter is by visual inspection of the substrate.

Procedure

  1. Inspect outlet section for evidence of soot residue. If found, ATD should be replaced.
  2. Inspect DPF outlet face for evidence of soot residue. If found, ATD should be replaced.
  3. If no soot is found in step 1 or 2, DPF should be considered serviceable.
  4. Inspect inlet face for plugging. If DPF is plugged, ATD should be replaced.
