Detroit Diesel — Fuel Heat Exchanger Removal

Repair & overhaul

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • FIRE: keep all potential ignition sources away from diesel fuel.
  • Do not disassemble the fuel heat exchanger; it cannot be serviced.

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the batteries.
  2. Open the hood.
  3. Disconnect the fuel lines on the heat exchanger and discard the seal rings.
  4. Remove the mounting bolts attaching the fuel heat exchanger to the DDEC-ECU and remove the heat exchanger.
