Before you start
- PERSONAL INJURY: ensure vehicle is parked on level surface, parking brake set and wheels blocked.
Procedure
- Lubricate the filter element rubber seal with fuel oil and insert it into the filter housing (push down and rotate).
- Fill the fuel filter housing with clean fuel oil.
- Install a new O-ring on the cap and screw the cap on; tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb·ft).
- If equipped with a hand pump on the fuel/water separator, work it until resistance is felt.
- Connect the batteries.
- Crank the engine for 30 seconds at a time, waiting at least two minutes between attempts.
- Once started, idle at least one minute and check the fuel filter housing for leaks.
- If the engine will not start and run smoothly, prime the fuel system (refer to 11.1.5).
