Detroit Diesel — Fuel Filter Housing Removal

Before you start
- FIRE: keep all potential ignition sources away from diesel fuel.
Procedure
- Disconnect the batteries.
- Open the fuel tank fill cap to release pressure; replace and tighten the cap.
- Using a 36-mm socket, unscrew the cap and lift the cap and filter element above the housing to drain.
- Remove the priming valve assembly or banjo bolt and seal rings from the delivery line; mark both sides and discard seal rings.
- Disconnect the fuel return line from the filter housing; mark connections and discard seal rings.
- Remove the drain line; mark connections and discard seal rings.
- Remove the two bolts attaching the filter housing to the mounting bracket.
- Remove the filter housing from the engine.
- Clean the fuel filter cap and discard the filter element.
