Before you start
- EGR Temperature Sensor failure can result in codes: EGR System-Temperature Above Normal (SID 146, FMI 0), EGR System-Temperature Below Normal (SID 146, FMI 1), or EGR System-Bad Component (SID 146, FMI 12)
- The broken tip can cause downstream internal damage to the engine
Procedure
- Confirm the sensor is at fault by following the troubleshooting steps for SID 146 in the MBE 900/4000 EGR Technicians Guide (7SE940).
- Unplug the EGR Temperature Sensor from the electrical harness and remove the sensor from the adaptor in the pipe.
- Install cap on the adaptor. Torque cap to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).
- Install plug in the electrical harness and tie strap the harness securely in place to prevent it from moving and possibly be caught in other moving parts.
- Re-flash the PLD with new fuel map to turn off the sensor. Select "Change PLD Rating" in the MBE Reprogramming System.
- View the EGR temperature on Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL). No temperature will be displayed if the sensor has been successfully turned off.
- Start and run the engine and confirm the sensor has successfully been turned off and no codes are logged.
