Maintenance

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • Do not exceed 40 psi (276 kPa) air pressure. Wear eye protection.
  • This procedure must be followed after replacing an engine brake solenoid to prevent severe engine damage.

Procedure

  2. If liquid/moisture present, continue; if not, install hot pipe and no further action required.
  3. Remove the mixer pipe from the cold boost pipe.
  4. Remove the exhaust gas crossover tube/lifting eye and venturi.
  5. Place a towel over the outlet of the EGR cooler and retain with a zip tie.
  6. Using a rubber tipped blow gun, blow compressed shop air into the individual EGR cooler tubes.
  7. Reinstall mixer pipe, exhaust gas crossover tube/lifting eye, and venturi.
