Procedure

  1. Clean the oil side: circulate 1,1,1 trichloroethane through core passages with a force pump to remove carbon and sludge; clean before sludge hardens.
  2. If oil passages are badly clogged, circulate oakite or alkaline solution through core and flush thoroughly with clean hot water.
  3. Clean the water side: immerse core in solution of one-half pound oxalic acid per two and one-half gallons of one-third muriatic acid and two-thirds water.
  4. When bubbling stops (usually 30 to 60 seconds), remove core and thoroughly flush with clean hot water; then dip core in light engine oil.
