Detroit Diesel — Change Hydraulic Fluid

Maintenance · Hydraulic reservoir

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Procedure

  1. Drain the fluid reservoir completely, flush clean and refill with fresh fluid at least once a year.
  2. When empty, clean the fill screen and the large 100 mesh suction strainer attached to the cover.
  3. Back-flush the strainer by forcing cleaning solvent through the suction pipe in the cover.
  4. Rinse all components with clean hydraulic fluid after cleaning with solvent.
