Procedure

1. Lubricate the new bearings with clean engine oil.
2. Install a new snap ring, bearing washer, bearing and snap ring in the turbine end of the center housing.
3. Install a new snap ring, bearing washer and bearing in the compressor end of the center housing. Install the current inboard thrust bearing (three oil grooves) with the smooth side against the center
4. Install a new piston ring(s) on the thrust spacer and gently insert the spacer into the backplate assembly. Do not force the piston rings into place.
5. Position the new inboard thrust washer flat against the center housing with the hole and cutout aligned with the pins. Install the thrust collar snugly against the thrust washer and lubricate with cle
6. Install a new seal ring in the groove at the compressor end of the center housing.
7. Align the oil feed holes and attach the backplate to the center housing with four bolts and new lockplates. Tighten T18A40 bolts to 90-110 lb-in or TV7101/TV8115 bolts to 80-100 lb-in; bend lockplate
8. TV7101/TV8115: install a new turbine piston ring on the wheel shaft assembly; fill the piston ring groove with high vacuum silicone grease first.
9. Position the wheel shroud against the center housing and insert the wheel shaft assembly through the shroud into the center housing. Be careful not to scuff the bearings.
10. Position the compressor wheel (room temperature) over the shaft. Lubricate the shaft threads and wheel face with engine oil and install the retaining nut. Tighten to 125-150 lb-in to seat the wheel, l
11. Check bearing axial end play with dial indicator J 7872-2 and magnetic base. Total indicator reading should be .004-.009 in (T18A40) or .003-.010 in (TV7101/TV8115).
12. Position the turbine housing as marked and secure. T18A40: four clamps, four new lockplates and eight bolts tightened to 100-130 lb-in. TV7101/TV8115: V band coupling tightened per toggle nut steps to
13. Position the compressor housing as marked and secure with the V band coupling; lubricate toggle bolt threads with engine oil and tighten nut to 110-130 lb-in.
14. Check shaft radial movement with dial indicator J 8001-3 and extension rod J 7872-1; displacement should be between .003 and .007 in.
