Detroit Diesel — Air Cleaner Element Replacement
A Detroit Diesel service procedure — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start
- High air cleaner restriction can cause turbocharger seals to unseat, causing oil to be drawn through seals and into engine
Procedure
- Measure air cleaner restriction using vehicle mounted gauges
- When 25 in. H2O (6.25 kPa) is sensed on the vehicle mounted gauges, replace the air cleaner element
- For convenience, air cleaner restriction can be measured at high idle (no load) when 12.5 in. H2O (3.13 kPa) is measured, the element must be replaced
Specs & torque values
- 25 in. H2O (6.25 kPa) restriction limit for replacement
- 12.5 in. H2O (3.13 kPa) limit for high idle measurement
