Detroit Diesel — Adjust Load Limit (Hydraulic Governor)

Adjustments · Governor load limit screw

From a Detroit Diesel service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • Do not overstress the linkage.

Procedure

  1. With governor cover off and load limit screw lock nut loosened, adjust screw to approximately 2 in from outside face of governor sub-cap boss to end of screw.
  2. Place and retain governor operating lever in the full-fuel position.
  3. Turn load limit adjusting screw until a .020 in space exists between fuel rod collar and terminal lever.
  4. If adjustment cannot be made with a feeler gage, turn the load limit adjusting screw in until injector racks just loosen on ball end of control levers.
  5. Release governor operating lever, hold adjusting screw, and tighten lock nut; install governor cover and tighten screws.
