Detroit Diesel — Adjust Buffer Screw

Adjustments · Governor

From a Detroit Diesel operator's manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Procedure

  1. With engine running at normal operating temperature, turn buffer screw in until it contacts differential lever as lightly as possible and eliminates engine roll.
  2. Do not increase idle speed more than 15 rpm.
  3. Recheck maximum no-load speed; if increased more than 25 rpm, back off buffer screw.
  4. Hold buffer screw and tighten lock nut.

Specs & values

  • Idle increase ≤15 rpm; max no-load increase ≤25 rpm
