Cummins V12 Series — Water Pump Removal and Installation

Before you start

  • AVOID STRETCHING BELTS. LOOSEN ADJUSTING SCREW UNTIL BELTS GO INTO POSITION EASILY.

Procedure

  1. Removal:
  2. 1. Drain cooling system.
  3. 2. Loosen clamp and disconnect hose at water pump inlet connection.
  4. 3. Loosen water pump belt enough to slip belt from pulley sheaves.
  5. 4. Remove capscrews holding pump to gear housing.
  6. 5. Remove pump from engine by separating from water by-pass coupling and oil cooler connection.
  7. Installation:
  8. 1. Install new rubber O rings on oil cooler connection and water by-pass coupling.
  9. 2. Lift pump into position; install lockwashers and capscrews holding pump to gear housing.
  10. 3. Adjust water pump belt tension as described.
  11. 4. Fill cooling system and start engine to check for leaks.
