Cummins/Onan — Flexible-Tube Water Pump Belt Adjustment

Before you start

  • Do not adjust to final tension at first snugging

Procedure

  1. Loosen clamp ring capscrews
  2. Insert bar in water pump body slots and rotate pump body counterclockwise to tighten belts
  3. Snug clamp ring capscrew farthest from belts, on exhaust side to 5 ft-lbs
  4. Snug two capscrews above and below the first one to 5 ft-lbs
  5. Finish tightening by alternating from side to side in 5 ft-lbs increments to a final torque of 12 to 15 ft-lbs
  6. Check belt tension

Tools required

  • Pry bar
  • Belt tension gauge

Specs & torque values

  • Capscrew torque: 5 ft-lbs initial
  • Final torque: 12 to 15 ft-lbs
