Before you start

  • For use with a Readi-Pull starter, the blower housing on the engine must be as rigid as possible. Examine the blower housing carefully. If the mounting holes are worn or if the blower housing is otherwise damaged, replace it with a new one.

Procedure

  1. Refer to the installation drawing. Do not change the flywheel mounting screw. New screws (if furnished) are needed on other model engines only.
  2. Install the new ratchet-wheel (1) to the blower wheel, using the two special head screws and lock washers provided. A 3/8 inch 12 point socket or closed end wrench fits these screws. Tighten securely.
  3. Four special nuts are supplied for mounting the starter to the blower housing. If the blower housing is not already fitted with similar mounting nuts, remove the blower housing and install the nuts in the square holes (2) in the blower housing.

Tools required

  • 3/8 inch 12 point socket or closed end wrench
