Before you start

  • The recoil spring may unwind and cause injury if let fly wildly when starter is disassembled or reassembled.

Procedure

  1. Examine the blower housing carefully; replace it if the mounting holes are worn or it is otherwise damaged.
  2. Install the new ratchet-wheel to the blower wheel using the two special head screws and lock washers provided; tighten securely.
  3. Install the four supplied special nuts in the square holes in the blower housing and reinstall the blower housing if not already fitted.
  4. Pull slowly out on the starter rope and insert a ten penny common nail through each of the two drilled holes when the roll pins align.
  5. Install the starter assembly to the blower housing making sure the nail ends enter the pilot holes in the ratchet wheel mounting screws.
  6. Mount the starter using a hex head screw, lock washer, and three flat washers at each mounting arm; tighten securely and remove the nails.
  7. To change the direction of pull, loosen the four clamp screws, turn the starter in its mounting ring, and tighten the clamp screws securely.
  8. Try the starter several times making sure the pull rope will not rub against a clamp screw.
