Procedure

  1. 1. Remeve the nut and leckwasher from the front ef the water. . pump shart and, using a suitable puller, pull the pulley off the shaft.
  2. 2. Remo.vethe three nuts mounting the shart suppert to. the body and remeve the support assembly.
  3. 3. To.- remove the impeller, remeve the set screw and pull er press the impeller from the shaft. No.te that ·if the set screw is lo.esenedo.nly a few turns it will net be free from the ho.le in the. shaft.
  4. 4. To. remo.ve the·shaft and bearings from the support, remo.ve the set screw from the to.p o.f the support and press.the assembly o.ut thro.ugh the front.
  5. 5. The seal will be fo.und assembled in the impeller hub. Care must be .taken in remo.ving this assembly. as the carbo.n seal is fragile and easily bro.ken. To. reassemble, reverse the procedure used in disassembly. When reasSem­ blingthe pump make sure that the set screw projects far eno.ugh to. line up the impeller en the shaft. Press the impeller en flush with the end of the shart. Pack;the space between bearings with a good grade o.f waterpump· grease. CRANKCASE VENTILATION.- The crankcase o.il fill cap permits entry o.f air to. the crankcase which is drawn o.ut through the valve chamber co.ver tube to. the intake manifeld. If the o.il fill cap becomes clo.gged with dust and dirt, excessive crankcase vacuum may build uP. causing eil to. be drliWll fro.m the valve cham.ber into. the intake manifo.ld. The baffle plate en the inner side o.f the valve co.ver must be in place and undam­ aged fer proper ventilatio.n. LUBRICATION SISTEM.- A gear type o.il pump supplies o.il. under pressure through drilled passageways to. the crankshaft main bearings, lo.wer con~ necting rod bearings, camshaft bearings and valve tappets. Whenever the engine is disassembled for servicing, make sure that all o.il passa.ges are unobstructed. Tho.roughly clean the engine o.il pan and the o.il pUlllp strainer screen. An o.il pressure relief adjustment is adjusted at the fact9I'Y to. give a pressure o.f 20-40po.unds at the governed speed, with the engine oil hot. . The o.i1 pressure relief adjustment is reached by removing a large hexago.n shaped plug in the side o.f the crankcase just below the o.il filter, and .adjusted by adding or removing spacer washers.
