Before you start

  • Never roll a belt over the pulley
  • Never pry belt on with a tool such as a screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Shorten distance between pulley centers so belt can be installed without force
  2. Replace belts in complete sets only
  3. Ensure belts do not bottom on pulley grooves and do not protrude over 3/32 in above top edge of groove
  4. Verify pulley misalignment does not exceed 1/16 in for each foot of distance between pulley centers
  5. Ensure belts do not rub any adjacent parts
  6. Adjust belts to proper tension
  7. Allow belts to run for 5 minutes, then readjust to after run-in tension

Tools required

  • Socket wrench set

Specs & torque values

  • Belt depth variation: not over 1/16 in on matched sets
  • Pulley misalignment: not over 1/16 in per foot of pulley center distance
  • Belt protrusion: not over 3/32 in above pulley groove
