Cummins/Onan DFK series — EXCITER A.C.

Procedure

  1. 2. No component or terminal of the exciter should show a grounded circuit.
  2. 3. If dc voltage is present at terminals AFI and AF2 in step 1 above, check the alternator for grounds, opens, etc.
  3. 4. Connect exciter leads. If ac voltage drops under load conditions, check the exciter rectifiers. Use a low voltage battery powered "Multimeter" type ohmmeter. Disconnect one lead from, or remove, each rectifier for the test. NOTE a. Note carefully the DIRECTION OF MOUNTING of any rectifier removed. It must be remounted in its orig- inal direction. Use extreme care not to overheat a rectifier if working on a soldered connection. Connect the ohmmeter across the rectifier contacts ahd obtain the meter reading.
