Cummins/Onan — Engine Shut-Down Procedure

Operation

From a Cummins/Onan owner's manual covering: GTA8.3, GTA8.3 CD1, GTAR 3. Check it applies to your exact model before use.

Applies to: Cummins/Onan GTA8.3 engine

Before you start

  • Always know the location of the manual fuel shut-off valve in the event of an emergency or while servicing the engine.

Procedure

  1. Let the engine idle a few minutes before shutting it down; idle 3 to 5 minutes to allow lubricating oil and water to carry heat away.
  2. Turn off the fuel-gas with either the automatic or manual shut-off valve and allow the engine to come to a complete stop.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
