Cummins/Onan — Checking Engine Oil Level

For these Cummins/Onan models: 2.0 KY, 2.5 KY, 2.8 KY, 2.8KVFA26100K.

Before you start

  • Crankcase pressure can blow hot engine oil out the fill opening causing severe burns. Always stop the genset before removing the oil fill cap.

Procedure

  1. Unscrew the oil fill cap and wipe oil off the dipstick (Figure 10). Reinsert the dipstick, but do not screw the cap down. Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level on the dip stick.
  2. Add or drain oil as necessary. See ENGINE OIL RECOMMENDATIONS (Page 6). Keep the oil level between the FULL and ADD marks.
  3. Screw the oil fill cap back on securely.
