Before you start
- Keep all parts in their respective orders. Keep valve assemblies together. Return rod caps to their respective pistons.
Procedure
- Drain crankcase oil.
- Disconnect all exhaust lines, fuel lines and electrical wires (tag all electrical wires).
- Remove engine from its slide rails and mountings and place on a suitable bench or work stand.
- Remove all shrouds, mounts, air cleaner, control box, etc.
- Remove flywheel, using a puller or pry-bar method.
- Remove flywheel alternator stator.
- Remove the gear cover, being careful to protect the oil seal from keyway damage.
- Remove the crank gear, using a gear puller and ring.
- Remove fuel pump, oil filter, starter, carburetor, fuel lines, spark plugs, etc.
- Remove breaker box.
- Remove oil base, oil pump and cylinder heads.
- Remove valves, springs, lifters, etc.
- Remove camshaft and gear assembly.
- Remove connecting rods, pistons and bearings.
- Remove rear bearing plate.
- Remove crankshaft.
- Remove front main bearing.

- Gear puller
- Pry bar
