Before you start

  • Fire hazard: do not position muffler directly below a drain hole.
  • Exhaust gases: make compartment walls vapor-tight to vehicle interior.

Procedure

  1. Install generator set in its own compartment.
  2. Separate compartment area from living quarters and any fuel supply with a vapor-tight wall.
  3. Line compartment walls with 26-gauge galvanized steel or material of comparable strength, durability, and fire resistance.
  4. Construct compartment floor to prevent oil, fuel, or water accumulation; use 1/2 inch (13 mm) diameter drain holes.
  5. Do not position muffler directly below a drain hole.
  6. Do not use absorbent sound proofing material on compartment floor.
  7. Equip base with an oil drain hole to outside of compartment.
  8. Do not mount muffler below oil drain valve.
  9. Secure mounting plate to support frame using 3/8-16 UNC grade 5 screws. Back two holes have weld nuts; front two can use screws, lockwashers, and nuts.
  10. Use screws long enough to allow minimum 1-1/2 threads to extend through nut.

Specs & values

  • 0.6 inch (15 mm) minimum clearance between generator set and compartment walls/ceiling
  • 3/8-16 UNC grade 5 screws
