Procedure
- Engine not running: connect a continuity test lamp across the breaker points and rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise until points close, then slowly clockwise; lamp should go out at 22 degrees BTC.
- Engine running: remove the plug from the timing hole and connect a timing light.
- Start the engine and check that the flywheel mark lines up with the 22 degrees BTC mark on the timing bracket.
- Adjust by loosening the breaker box mounting screws and moving left to advance or right to retard.
- Restart to verify, tighten all screws, replace the timing plug.
