Cummins/Onan 6.5NH - 3CR / 6000 A — Governor Speed and Sensitivity Adjustment

Adjustments

For the Cummins/Onan 6.5NH - 3CR / 6000 A, from the Cummins/Onan service manual.

Applies to: Cummins/Onan NH engine

Procedure

  1. Speed: turn the speed adjusting nut to increase speed or out to decrease speed; no-load speed should be slightly higher than the speed required by the connected load.
  2. Sensitivity: move the governor spring toward the governor shaft to increase sensitivity, or toward the linkage end to decrease it.
  3. If too sensitive, a hunting condition results; if not sensitive enough, speed variation between no-load and full-load is too great.
  4. Always recheck the speed adjustment after a sensitivity adjustment.
