Procedure

1. 8. Connect the wiring to the alternator.
2. 9. Connect the batteries and remove the tags.
3. Starter Motor - Remove and Install

6. 1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
7. 2. Identify the electrical wire with a tag indicating loca-
8. tion.
9. 3. Remove the battery cable from the solenoid.
10. 4. Remove the starting motor cap-screws, the starter,
11. spacers and the gaskets. Discard the gaskets.
12. install
13. Note: Installation of the top electric starting motor
14. first will simplify the installation of both starting
15. motors.
16. 5. Install any gaskets.
17. 6. Install the starting motor with three lock washers and
18. capscrews.
19. Torque Value: 215 N m [160 ft-lb]
20. 7. Install the electrical connections to the starter motor.
21. 8. Connect the batteries,
22. Starter Motor - Check for Reuse
23. Caution: Wear protective clothing to prevent personal
24. injury from burns caused by steam.
25. 1. Clean the exterior of the motor with steam.
