Before you start

Procedure

  1. 5. Remove the alternator belt.
  2. Note: The three cap-screws are SAE Grade 8 and
  3. the three spacers are hardened. Keep the parts
  4. together to aid in the assembly procedures.
  5. 6. Remove the three cap-screws, spacers, washers
  6. and nuts from the alternator mounting.
  7. 7. Remove the nut and pulley from the alternator.
  8. 8. Clean and check the pulley for reuse.
  9. 9. Lubricate the shaft with engine oil. Install the pulley
  10. and nut on the alternator shaft. Tighten the nut to
  11. 100 Nem [75 ft-lb].
  12. Engines with the older style alternator adjusting link
  13. require that the end with the longest machined area at
  14. the cap-screw hole must be nearest to the alternator.
  15. Note: The three cap-screws are SAE Grade 8. The
  16. heavy flat washers are hardened. The washers have a
  17. notch for identification. These parts
  18. are installed
  19. because they must be loosened and tightened more
  20. than normal to adjust the alternator belt.
