Maintenance · Engine

From a Craftsman Marine owner's manual covering: CM 2.16, CM 3.27, CM3.27. Check it applies to your exact model before use.

Applies to: Craftsman Marine CM 2.16, Craftsman Marine CM 3.27

Before you start

  • With this mixture: idling revolutions only, no revving up allowed!
  • Anti-freeze liquid is very poisonous! Make sure anti-freeze is not getting mixed up with raw water.
  • Make sure the cover of the raw water strainer tightens well to avoid false air and overheating.

Procedure

  1. Run the engine for some 10 minutes with a protective mixture of 10% lubrication oil and 90% clean diesel fuel.
  2. Replace the oil filter and change the engine lubrication oil with a good quality oil with protective properties.
  3. Close the raw water seacock and clean the raw water strainer.
  4. Drain enough cooling liquid from the inner cooling circuit to add 1 liter of extra anti-freeze.
  5. Have the motor idling for a few seconds so the additional anti-freeze spreads throughout the system.
  6. Make sure the inner cooling system contains sufficient anti-freeze, checking with a volume gauge.
  7. Disconnect the battery cables and charge the batteries from time to time during the winter period.
  8. Drain the water from the fuel filter/water separator to avoid frost damage.
  9. Fit a new fuel filter.
