Before you start

  • Be sure to shut off the fuel feed before removing the delivery valve.

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the No.1 injection pipe.
  2. Remove the No.1 delivery valve; put back the valve holder only.
  3. Remove the tie-rod cover and disconnect the tie-rod from the control rack.
  4. Set the control rack to a midway position.
  5. Open the fuel feed pipe and confirm fuel flows from the delivery valve holder.
  6. Turn crankshaft clockwise and find the instant fuel stops flowing (real injection timing).
  7. Adjust injection pump mounting shim thickness to align with standard timing.

Specs & values

  • Increasing or decreasing shim thickness by 0.1 mm [0.0039 in.] varies injection timing about 1°
  • Standard injection timing: 15° bTDC (<2000 rpm), 17° bTDC (2000-3600 rpm), 19° bTDC (3600 rpm)
