Before you start

  • Ensure proper clearance between #3 and #6 Pacbrake crossheads and the cover bases.

Procedure

  1. Apply clean lube oil to the terminal lead-out bushing seal ring and tighten until seated.
  2. Install the Pacbrake gaskets in the spacers, leaving a gap of about 1/8 inch at each end for expansion.
  3. Install the spacers over the base mounting studs.
  4. Install the Pacbrake serrated nuts and capscrews and tighten evenly to 13 lb.ft. (18 N.m).
  5. Install the solenoid wire on the spacer lead-out terminal.
  6. Start the engine and idle 5 to 10 minutes.
  7. Hold a clean rag over the control valve covers and depress the solenoid 5 or 6 times to purge air.
  8. Perform a final check for abnormal oil or fuel leaks.
  9. Check for interference at oil filler or breather locations; remove cover material if needed.
  10. Install the valve covers and torque holddown screws to 13 lb.ft. (18 N.m); relocate and install the breather pipe extension hose.
