Before you start

  • Do not readjust or tamper with the solenoid valve; engine damage could result.

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the solenoid harness.
  2. Unscrew the solenoid valve with a Jacobs solenoid socket or a 12 pt. socket wrench.
  3. Remove and discard the three rubber seal rings; remove the lower ring with a seal pick if it stays in the bore.
  4. Wash out the solenoid valve with approved cleaning solvent; clean the oil screen with a brush and dry with compressed air.
  5. Clean the solenoid valve bore in the housing with clean paper towels; never use rags.
  6. Reinstall the solenoid using new seal rings; seat the lower seal ring in the base of the bore and wipe clean lube oil around the bore.
  7. Place the upper and center seal rings on the solenoid valve body and carefully screw the solenoid into the housing.
  8. Torque the valve to 5 lbft (7 N·m); be careful not to twist the seals.
