Before you start
- Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
- Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.
- Failure to tighten all fittings could result in serious fuel leaks.
Procedure
- Turn the engine control switch (ECS) to the "OFF" position.
- Open air purge screw (1) for the fuel filter by three full turns. Do not remove the air purge screw.
- Start the engine. The engine should start and run smoothly.
- If the engine does not start after 30 seconds, allow the starter motor to cool for two minutes before retrying.
- While the engine runs, observe air purge screw (1); when a small drop of fuel appears at the threads, close and tighten it.
