Caterpillar 3406C Marine Engine — Remove & Install Oil Pan

Procedure

1. Remove the magnetic drain plug, and drain the oil into a suitable container.
2. Disconnect sump pump line (1) from oil pan if equipped; cap or plug openings.
3. Remove bolts (2) that hold the oil pan to the cylinder block.
4. Remove the oil pan and gasket from the cylinder block.
5. Put the gasket and oil pan in position; install bolts and tighten to 55 ± 10 N·m.
6. Connect sump pump line if equipped.
7. Install the magnetic drain plug; tighten to 70 ± 15 N·m.
8. Fill engine with oil to the correct level.
