Before you start

  • Do not use a steel file on contact points - use carborundum contact point file only
  • If either or both points are badly pitted or burned, replace both points

Procedure

  1. Locate contact points on engine crankcase
  2. Turn crankshaft by hand to see if contact points open and close properly
  3. Points must be clean and line up squarely to make good electrical contact
  4. Do not use a steel file on contact points - use carborundum contact point file
  5. If either or both points are badly pitted or burned, replace both points
  6. Loosen contact spring bolt
  7. Move contact spring assembly to line up with contact arm

  • Carborundum contact point file

  • Part Nos. 68288 and 59754 (replacement points)
