Procedure

  1. 23. What type of generator is being serviced?
  2. A. 16-20 kW Horizontal Unit- Move to step 24.
  3. B. 8-12 kW Vertical Unit- Move to step 30.
  4. 16-20 kW Horizontal Units
  5. 24. See Figure A12. Is battery voltage at the positive post of the starter solenoid equal to or greater than
  6. 9.6 VDC?
  7. A. Yes- Move to step 25.
  8. B. No- Repair or replace wiring and/or connections between battery and starter. Retest.
  9. 25. See Figure A13. Is battery voltage on Wire 13 at the starter relay (Wire 99 on some models) equal to
  10. A. Yes- Move to step 26.
  11. B. No- Return to step 8 (under Test 1: Check Battery Voltage Supply).
  12. 26. See Figure A14. Disconnect control wire (Wire 98 on some models) from spade contact at starter
  13. 27. Install 15 Amp fuse in control panel.
  14. 28. Press and hold MANUAL on control panel to crank engine.
  15. 29. Is DC voltage on control wire at starter solenoid equal to or greater than 9.6 VDC?
  16. A. Yes- Install new starter. Retest.
  17. B. No- Repair or replace wiring between starter relay and starter solenoid. Retest.
  18. 8-12 kW Vertical Units
  19. 30. See Figure A10. Is battery voltage at the positive post of the starter relay equal to or greater than 9.6
  20. A. Yes- Move to step 31.
