Before you start

  • Use care when removing camshaft to prevent damaging cam bearing, journals and lobes.
  • Remove carbon or ridge from cylinder and number connecting rod/piston assemblies before removing from cylinders.

Procedure

  1. Remove cylinder head.
  2. Remove oil pan, timing cover, gears and case.
  3. Remove flywheel and rear seal retainer.
  4. Remove starter motor.
  5. Remove alternator bracket and alternator.
  6. Remove valve lifters. Number lifters so that they may be re-installed in the same position.
  7. Remove camshaft.
  8. Remove oil pick-up tube and strainer. Discard gasket.
  9. Remove connecting rod and piston assemblies.
  10. Remove crankshaft main bearing caps, keeping main bearings with their respective caps.
  11. Remove crankshaft.
