Basler — Initial Operation - Single Unit (No Load)

Operation · Voltage regulator

From a Basler service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • To avoid high voltage arcing, the field circuit must never be opened during operation.
  • A shutdown circuit using field discharge resistors in the exciter field circuit should not be used.

Procedure

  1. Start prime mover and bring up to rated speed.
  2. If voltage shutdown switch is used, close switch to apply excitation.
  3. Verify generator voltage.
  4. If overvoltage (+20% or more), open shutdown switch immediately and/or stop prime mover.
  5. If no voltage build up, field flashing may be required.
  6. If undervoltage (-15% or more), stop prime mover and determine cause.
  7. If voltage builds up and collapses, stop prime mover and determine cause.
  8. If oscillating voltage (hunting), refer to troubleshooting.
  9. If voltage unstable, loosen locking nut on R4 and rotate clockwise approximately 30° beyond stable point.
  10. Tighten lock nut on R4.
  11. To adjust voltage range for ±10%, verify R1 at center of travel.
  12. Loosen locking nut on R3 and adjust to rated generator voltage.
  13. Tighten lock nut on R3.
  14. Apply load to generator.
  15. Verify voltage regulation within ±1/2%.

Specs & values

  • Voltage regulation within ±1/2%
  • R3 provides R1 adjustment range of ±10% of rated
