Allmand — Spool Seal Installation

Repair & overhaul · Control valve spool

From a Allmand operator's manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • Do not pull spool too far, as this will allow seal in front groove to enter a spool groove.
  • Be careful not to over torque spool screw and twist it off.

Procedure

  1. Lightly oil and insert one new spool seal in handle end (front) seal groove of valve housing.
  2. Verify seal fit; seal should have a perfect ridge with no kinks or twists.
  3. Lightly oil valve spool and reintroduce from positioner end (rear) into valve housing.
  4. Slowly push spool past seal with twisting motion; stop when seal groove is exposed on positioner end.
  5. Lightly oil and insert remaining spool seal in bonnet end seal groove; verify fit.
  6. Return spool to center position with a twisting motion.
  7. Reattach spool positioner using Loctite 242 (blue) on spool screw.
  8. Slide bonnet in place; replace bonnet screws and torque to 5-7 ft. lbs.
