Procedure

  1. Install idler shaft and gear in pump housing.
  2. Install drive shaft and gear in housing.
  3. Lubricate shafts and gears.
  4. Install gasket and cover on pump housing.
  5. Secure cover with capscrews. Torque capscrews to 18--20 lbs. ft. (2.48--2.76 kg/m).
  6. Heat drive gear in oil to a temperature of 400°F (204°C).
  7. Press gear onto drive shaft until there is a clearance of .04"---.06" (1.01--1.52mm) between gear and pump housing face.
  8. Install relief valve components in pump cover as shown. Secure with spring pin.
  9. Make certain pump turns freely without binding before installing it on engine.
  10. Place pump in position on cylinder block.
  11. Secure with capscrews and lockwashers. Tighten capscrews to a torque of 28--32 lbs. ft. (3.87--4.42 kg/m).

  • Drive shaft O.D. at bushing: .871"---.872" (22.12--22.15mm)
  • Running clearance: .001"---.004" (0.025--0.102mm)
  • Drive gear clearance: .04"---.06" (1.01--1.52mm)
  • Cover torque: 18--20 lbs. ft. (2.48--2.76 kg/m)
  • Pump housing torque: 28--32 lbs. ft. (3.87--4.42 kg/m)
  • Drive gear heat temp: 400°F (204°C)
