Symptoms & remedies

SymptomCauseRemedy
LOW FUEL LEVEL SHUTDOWNFuel level is low or fuel lines are running dry.Check the fuel level on the LCD window. Confirm that the generator is sitting level to ensure an accurate reading. Check for leaks in the fuel tank. The fuel tank should not run dry under normal circumstances. If the fuel level is good and no leaks are found, check the fuel level sender and the connecting wiring for damage.
LOW OIL PRESSURE SHUTDOWNOil pressure is less than 20 psi (138 kPa).Check the level of the engine oil with the dipstick. Visually inspect the engine for oil leaks. If the oil level is good, restart the unit and verify the loss of oil pressure. Check the oil pressure sender.
LOW COOLANT LEVEL SHUTDOWNCoolant level in the radiator is low.Allow the engine to cool. Check the coolant level in the radiator. Inspect coolant hoses, engine block and water pump for visible leaks. Check engine oil to verify no coolant has mixed with it.
HIGH COOLANT TEMPERATURE SHUTDOWNCoolant temperature is 230°F (110°C) or more.Check the coolant level in the overflow jug. Restart the engine and read the coolant temperature to verify High Coolant Temperature Shut down. Allow the engine to cool. Add coolant to the overflow jug if it is low and then check the level of coolant in the radiator. Check the radiator shroud and ducting for blockage. Inspect coolant hoses, engine block and water pump for visible leaks. Check the tension of the serpentine drive belt for the water pump. If no other problems are found, remove the load on the generator and restart the engine.
OVERCRANK SHUTDOWNCheck the fuel level in tank. Check for proper operation of the fuel pump. Check air filter for blockage. If the engine will not start, consult the engine operator’s manual for additional information on trouble-shooting starting problems.
