8GFCI Receptacle Test diagnostic
- Start engine
- Press TEST button; RESET button should pop out, stopping power to outlet
- If GFCI operation is correct, push RESET button in
- If GFCI operates incorrectly, contact a Kohler portable dealer
Air Cleaner Service maintenance
⚠ Operating engine with loose or damaged air cleaner components could cause premature wear
Tools: detergent, engine oil
- Remove screw (T) and air cleaner cover (U).
- Remove foam element (V) from air cleaner base (W).
- Wash foam element (V) in warm water with detergent. Rinse and allow to air dry.
- Lightly oil foam element (V) with new engine oil; squeeze out excess oil.
- Reinstall foam element (V) into air cleaner base (W).
- Reinstall cover and secure with screw (T).
Change Oil maintenance
⚠ Change oil while engine is warm
- Clean area around oil fill cap/dipstick (N) and oil drain plug (M)
- Remove oil drain plug (M) and oil fill cap/dipstick (N); drain oil completely
- Reinstall oil drain plug (M); torque to 13 ft. lb. (17.6 N·m)
- Fill crankcase with new oil, up to point of overflowing filler neck
- Reinstall oil fill cap/dipstick (N) and tighten securely
- Dispose of used oil in accordance with local ordinances
Check Oil Level maintenance
⚠ Never run engine with oil level below or above operating range indicator on dipstick
- Ensure engine is cool; clean oil fill/dipstick (N) area of debris
- Remove oil fill/dipstick (N); wipe oil off
- Reinsert dipstick (N) and check oil level; should be at top of indicator
- If low, add oil up to point of overflowing filler neck
- Reinstall oil fill/dipstick (N) and tighten securely
Clean/Replace Fuel Filter maintenance
- Open fuel tank cap (K)
- Remove fuel filter (AD) from tank neck
- Clean fuel filter (AD) with non-flammable solvent or high flash point solvent; dry fully; replace as necessary
- Reinstall fuel filter (AD)
- Reinstall fuel tank cap (K)
Long-Term Storage maintenance
⚠ Failures due to untreated fuel are not warrantable
- Add Kohler PRO Series fuel treatment or equivalent to fuel tank; run engine 2-3 minutes to stabilize fuel
- Change oil while engine is still warm from operation
- Remove spark plug and pour about 1 oz. of engine oil into cylinder(s); replace spark plug and crank engine slowly to distribute oil
- Clean generator
- Store generator in a dry, well-ventilated place with cover placed over it after engine has cooled

- Clean out spark plug recess; remove spark plug (Q)
- Check gap using wire feeler gauge; adjust per specification table
- Install spark plug (Q) into cylinder head
- Torque spark plug (Q) to 20 ft. lb. (27 N·m)
